Chef’s Plate Cauliflower Dal With Basmati Rice

Tonight we made this dish, which was super simple and done within 30mins or so. It was pretty flavourful and we weren’t missing meat at all! Will definitely make this again sometime on our own.

So far we’ve enjoyed Chef’s Plate the most, out of all the delivery services we’ve tried. Of course we can Google similar recipes, but with the 55% off the first 2 orders – why not give it a try? It can give you new recipe ideas to add to your roster, where you can Google and find a similar recipe in the future. There are others that we find more expensive of course, but even with their regular pricing, Chef’s Plate seems reasonable to add every so often…

Hello Fresh – French Dip Sandwich

This french dip sandwich was the second meal we had selected from the menu at Hello Fresh. And it was pretty decent, the way the recipe is on it’s own. Though again, next time I would definitely add Montreal steak spice to the meat for more flavour. But the buns were great and my husband put a bit of seasoning into the au jus which helped make the dish. Not sure we would choose this again if we used the delivery service, but we wouldn’t mind trying another recipe some time. Our son did enjoy his deconstructed version as well and in the end that’s all we can ask for ☺️

Hello Fresh – Turkey Tortilla Pie

Been seeing these food delivery subscription sites all over the web and heard about them through friends and family. Decided to try Hello Fresh, as you get 50% off your first week. If you choose to continue, you’d get 3-4 meals picked by you, delivered weekly. For this promo we got the above Turkey Tortilla Pie, Honey and Herb-Crusted Pork with Roasted Broccoli and Potatoes as well as a French Dip Sandwich with Oven Fries.

It says that all these meals take 35mins to prepare and so far the tortilla pie was made in that time frame. But if you have kids constantly taking attention away, I can see how it could take a lot longer. My husband helped with the meal and keeping our son entertained, which made it a lot easier and quicker. The tortilla pie tasted fine, though there were no veggies. Making this on my own, I would definitely bulk this up with veggies. Being that we chose the 4 serving option, not quite sure why it called for a 9×13 baking dish. We got 6 servings out of it instead, though you could easily go to 8 smaller servings.

In the end, would I spend the weekly regular price (3 meals for $139.99/4 servings a week) they ask for the subscription? Probably not. Though I do appreciate that they pick out low or no sodium products as well as organic. But I could just plan these meals out myself and get the ingredients. For a once in a while option it’s all right though and I’ve skipped the next 2 months worth of meals for now.

Crock Pot Crab Dip Recipe

I found this recipe while perusing Pinterest, as one does, to find a dip to make for this past Super Bowl Sunday. Decided on trying this, since it was quick and easy to put together and perfect for my Little Dipper crock pot. Now this recipe calls for canned crab meat, but after reading some less then favourable reviews on that ingredient option, I decided to steer clear. I chose to just use imitation flaked crab instead. So our recipe is not actually crab dip, but close enough 😉🦀

In my opinion, I was really happy I went with the imitation flaked crab, because it still turned out yummy for us! If we get the chance to buy real crab, will definitely try it that way, but until then, this is a more economical version ☺️ I also added half a red pepper for some colour and crunch, one more green onion and some chives. Since I felt there was lots of salt from the mayo and imitation crab, I used garlic powder and added a little bit of seasoning salt and a spot or two of Sriracha. With these additions, I think it helped the dip, and we really enjoyed it. Will add this recipe to the dips rotation we have during Super Bowl and holiday.

Instant Pot Turkey Wild Rice Soup

I had put a roasted turkey breast from our Thanksgiving dinner in the freezer. I wanted to use it up, so looked for an instant pot recipe to make. When I came across this one, I decided to make it since it was simple to put together, and pretty quick to cook in the instant pot. The end result turned out good, though I used cream instead of coconut milk and I used regular flour. I would say it definitely needs a lot more spice and herbs for our tastes, so when I make this next it’ll have more. To me it’s a good recipe, that just needs a little more oomph to it.

Instant Pot Pumpkin Butternut Squash Bisque

A new year is here!! 🎉 And after loads of festive treats and meals, it’s good to get back to normal. Though let’s be real, we still have some treats around 😉🍪🍫🍬

So today I chose to make this pumpkin butternut squash bisque, since I had leftover roasted pumpkin from the freezer I wanted to use up. Once prep was done, it cooked in 14mins on high pressure, which was great! As for the soup itself, it wasn’t bad, but honestly not too much flavour. Nothing more vegetables and spices couldn’t fix though. I would say it’s a good base and for now hot sauce will add just the right kick it needs for us this time around.

Instant Pot BBQ Dr. Pepper Cocktail Meatballs Recipe

We got an Instant Pot for Black Friday in November and I love it!! Already made a pot roast dinner, which was great. So decided on making this recipe to take to my parents for New Year’s Eve. Can’t go wrong with only 3 ingredients, and I have never made meatballs with pop. They turned out pretty good…not too sweet and great either on its own or over rice. Will definitely make these again in 2019!

Merry Christmas Everyone!!🎄

Hope you all had a wonderful day spent with family and friends yesterday!! Our Christmas Day was spent with family opening presents, playing and watching classic Christmas specials and movies ☺️🎄🎅

We had spent Christmas Eve making a treat, we’ll be giving away to family and friends, we still have to see as part of their gifts. I chose to make these holiday pretzel m&m kiss treats this year, because they were super easy and our 3 year old son could help out for some of them ☺🥨🍫

The most tedious part was taking off the wrapping for the Hershey Kisses. This time I made them according to the recipe with milk chocolate kisses, but next time I’ll use the candy cane kisses for the festive peppermint flavour🎄We’ve all enjoyed the combination of salty pretzel with sweet chocolate and these are much easier then making dipped pretzels. I will definitely make these again! ✔️

Cherry Cola Flavour Creme Oreos

Got these while in the U.S. not too long ago, and gave them a try the other night. As much as the name of these Oreos sounds yummy, to my hubby and I they weren’t. For one thing, I didn’t feel anything from the popping candy side and the cherry cola flavour itself was off. They say there’s an Oreo for everyone right? 😉 This one just wasn’t ours. We also bought the Peanut Butter Pie Oreos…will be trying those ones next!

Starbucks Cardamom Latte

Today was cool enough to have a hot latte, so I decided to try the Cardamom Latte from Starbucks. It tasted okay and not so sweet with only 1 shot instead of the standard 2 in a grande size. If you like chai tea, you’ll probably enjoy this latte. But if you’re into the sweeter options on the menu, this one may be too tame for you 😉
