Hello Fresh – Turkey Tortilla Pie

Been seeing these food delivery subscription sites all over the web and heard about them through friends and family. Decided to try Hello Fresh, as you get 50% off your first week. If you choose to continue, you’d get 3-4 meals picked by you, delivered weekly. For this promo we got the above Turkey Tortilla Pie, Honey and Herb-Crusted Pork with Roasted Broccoli and Potatoes as well as a French Dip Sandwich with Oven Fries.

It says that all these meals take 35mins to prepare and so far the tortilla pie was made in that time frame. But if you have kids constantly taking attention away, I can see how it could take a lot longer. My husband helped with the meal and keeping our son entertained, which made it a lot easier and quicker. The tortilla pie tasted fine, though there were no veggies. Making this on my own, I would definitely bulk this up with veggies. Being that we chose the 4 serving option, not quite sure why it called for a 9×13 baking dish. We got 6 servings out of it instead, though you could easily go to 8 smaller servings.

In the end, would I spend the weekly regular price (3 meals for $139.99/4 servings a week) they ask for the subscription? Probably not. Though I do appreciate that they pick out low or no sodium products as well as organic. But I could just plan these meals out myself and get the ingredients. For a once in a while option it’s all right though and I’ve skipped the next 2 months worth of meals for now.

Jalapeno Popper Roll Ups and Creamy Apple Dessert

As part of our Super Bowl Sunday spread, I decided to make something new, to see how it tastes. I perused the interweebs, and found this recipe, that caught my eye. My hubby and I are fans of Jalapeno Poppers, so we thought we’d give this one a go. It’s a definitely a twist on the original, but was easy to make, and not bad. The recipe says it makes 16 servings, but I have at least another batch worth, of the filling left. So for us, it actually makes twice as much, which we’ll make at another time. Definitely great for a crowd though, since it makes so much!!

I was also looking to make a new dessert, so when I came across this Creamy Apple Dessert recipe, I wanted to give it a try!! It was definitely a hit with us, and even my parents. It tastes like an apple cheesecake, so if you’re into that combo, you’ll like it too. This recipe would be even better with cherry pie filling, which is what I’ll be trying next time for sure!! I may actually take the time, to make the filling from scratch, to lessen the sugar content. Will be sure to make this one again soon.

McDonald’s After Eight Baked Pie…Whaaat?!

The second I saw this, I knew we HAD to try it!! How could this be anything, but pure edible enjoyment…right?! I’m sad to say though…it fell short of my expectations. Not that they were sky high or anything…but still LOL It did taste like the After Eight mint filling, but the ‘chocolate’ flavoured crust, left much to be desired. Oh well, at least I can say, we tried it!!

Wanda’s Pie In The Sky and Lemon Meringue Bliss

A couple weekends ago, my hubby and I went to Kensington Market, to spend a sunny Sunday, walking around. We always stop by, whenever we’re there, because they have great pies. We usually get their sour cherry pie, because I love sour cherry…yum!!

This past visit we got their Lemon Meringue pie, and it didn’t disappoint!! It was just a thing of beauty, with the sky high meringue, and very lemony…omnomnom!! And not the artificial kind other, just pure lemon flavour – exactly the way I like it 😀 So if you’re ever in Kensington Market, stop by Wanda’s Pie in the Sky, for a cup of coffee and a piece of pie!!

Mmm…Lemon Meringue Pie

I can’t think of a better way, to end an evening, then with a wonderfully tart piece of lemon meringue pie…omnomnom. I can’t bring myself to have at it, and make my own from scratch, because I’m still a bit intimidated by the meringue. So, this was yet another store bought pie, but was every bit as good as it always is – whenever we buy it 🙂

I’m on a Pumpkin Kick…Can You Blame Me Though?!

Just saw this photo on the Better Homes & Gardens Facebook page. It’s one of the options, they need help in deciding to use for their cover photo. Out of all of them, this was my favourite. Scrumptious Pumpkin Meringue Pie…does it get any better?!
