Warm Chickpea and Grain Mustard Salad

Mmm…my hubby made this earlier this week for us. We first saw and ate this at the 2011 Toronto Buskerfest, at the Kozlik’s Canadian Mustard stand. Now their mustard is super tasty, but a bit on the pricey side for us. If you have the money to spend though, I’d definitely recommend you give them a try ๐Ÿ™‚

We basically looked at the dish, as we ate it, and figured out that it was just chickpeas, diced onions, diced green peppers, garlic and grain mustard sauteed in a pan. Begin with sauteeing the onion, garlic and green peppers until they’ve softened a bit. Then add the chickpeas and grain mustard and let them heat through. It’s really THAT simple!! And this dish has been a part of our recipe rotation ever since ๐Ÿ™‚

Mama Mia’s Italian Eatery – January 4th, 2012

My hubby and I were in Niagara Falls, for our 8th wedding anniversary weekend, we spend there each year. On our last day there, we were hungry for lunch, after checking out of the hotel so we decided to try out Mama Mia’s at the top of Clifton Hill. We had always wondered about the place, and finally took a chance and went in.

After being seated by the window, and perusing the menu, my hubby and I decided to have the lunch size Homemade Manicotti. It was made with fresh pasta, which is a nice change, as not many places make fresh pasta…at least at a reasonable price. Mama’s sauce was nicely seasoned and complimented the ricotta, parsley and egg stuffed manicotti. For a ‘luncheon’ size the manicotti was big, and definitely filled us up. We also couldn’t resist and ate the yummy, crusty Italian bread that was brought to the table. It was great for sopping up the leftover sauce…omnomnom.

We will definitely go back to Mama Mia’s again, and would recommend you check it out too, the next time you’re in Niagara Falls. The food is good, reasonably priced and the staff is very friendly – you won’t be disappointed!!

Mmm…Lemon Meringue Pie

I can’t think of a better way, to end an evening, then with a wonderfully tart piece of lemon meringue pie…omnomnom. I can’t bring myself to have atย it, and make my own from scratch, because I’m still a bit intimidated by the meringue. So, this was yet another store bought pie, but was every bit as good as it always is – whenever we buy it ๐Ÿ™‚

Pho Hung Vietnamese Restaurant – October 28, 2012

My hubby and I have always wanted to check this place out, every time we’ve driven by it. It always looks busy, so we thought they’re probably pretty good. They had the usual fare you find at a Vietnamese restaurant, which were all decently priced.

We decided to try their Pho, and we ordered their house special, that most Pho places have. It came with the usual rare beef, tendon, tripe and beef balls. As compared to the Pho 99 place we usually go to, this place made their Pho with a lot more onion and cilantro, which I LOVED. We also ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls, which came with peanut dipping sauce, that seemed thicker then the usual smooth dipping sauce. Which made me think they may make it in-house. All in all, our meal was very flavourful and as always, filled us up. We’ll definitely go back the next time we’re over that way and in the mood for Pho. If you’re ever in the area, and want good Pho, give them a try!!

Skinny Toasted Marshmallow Latte

Looks like Second Cup is already bringing out their holiday latte flavours!! This year there’s Eggnog and Toasted Marshmallow.ย  At the location we were at, they had already gotten the Toasted Marshmallow syrup in, so my hubby and I decided to give it a try. I have to say I loved it!! It tasted very much like a toasted marshmallow, which I thought, could be a flavour that wouldn’t work. But it did, and I’d totally recommend you giving it a try, if your local Second Cup has the syrup already!!

Truly Thai Cuisine – Saturday October 20, 2012

After an evening at the Vaughan Mills Outlet Mall, my hubby and I were starving, so we went across the way to find somewhere to eat. We ended up at Truly Thai Cuisine. There was one other table occupied there, and we weren’t sure if this would be a good place to eat. Then again, it was late and their prices weren’t too bad, so we gave them a try.

My hubby and I both had the Chicken Lemongrass Soup, and we shared the Thai Spring Rolls, as a starter. The lemongrass soup was really good, flavourful and really hit the spot, on a cool rainy evening. The spring rolls didn’t disappoint. They were perfectly fried and crispy – just the way we like them.

We also ordered, Pad Thai and Thai Vegetable Green Curry (which we were introduced to by my sisters and brother-in-law) as our mains, to share. We ended up adding Coconut Rice, because it goes so well with the curry.ย The Pad Thai was perfectly cooked, and the Green Curry was creamy and SPICY!! It was awesome!! There was more then enough food for the two of us, and we left with full bellies. This is a place, we’ll definitely go back to again ๐Ÿ™‚ If you’re in the area, and in the mood for Thai food, I would recommend you check them out, as I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!!

What’s for Dinner Tonight!!

So, I still had a whole turkey breast left from Thanksgiving, that I didn’t know what to do with. Last year I had made soup, but this year I wanted to make something different. Then I came across this recipe from Chatelaine Magazine (A Canadian women’s mag, if you don’t already know), calledย Turkey Vegetable Biryani. I took a look at the recipe, and I had everything in the recipe already – BONUS. It turned out pretty good, with a nice flavour. If you’re looking for super authentic biryani flavour though, you’re out of luck, but otherwise it’s pretty decent tasting.
