Salsa + Sour Cream + Corn = Nummy Salad Lunch!!

Today I was standing in the kitchen, wondering what to eat. I opened the pantry to find canned corn┬á– great!! Now, what to do with it? I thought for a bit, and I decided on adding some salsa (1/4 cup to be exact) and some Greek yogurt sour cream for the extra creaminess compared to regular (1/4 cup as well). I finished it off with cracked black pepper, and my salsa corn salad was born. It may not look like anything special, but it was flavourful, and that’s what matters to me!!

Mama Mia’s Italian Eatery – January 4th, 2012

My hubby and I were in Niagara Falls, for our 8th wedding anniversary weekend, we spend there each year. On our last day there, we were hungry for lunch, after checking out of the hotel so we decided to try out Mama Mia’s at the top of Clifton Hill. We had always wondered about the place, and finally took a chance and went in.

After being seated by the window, and perusing the menu, my hubby and I decided to have the lunch size Homemade Manicotti. It was made with fresh pasta, which is a nice change, as not many places make fresh pasta…at least at a reasonable price. Mama’s sauce was nicely seasoned and complimented the ricotta, parsley and egg stuffed manicotti. For a ‘luncheon’ size the manicotti was big, and definitely filled us up. We also couldn’t resist and ate the yummy, crusty Italian bread that was brought to the table. It was great for sopping up the leftover sauce…omnomnom.

We will definitely go back to Mama Mia’s again, and would recommend you check it out too, the next time you’re in Niagara Falls. The food is good, reasonably priced and the staff is very friendly – you won’t be disappointed!!

Lunch at Jack Astor’s – Friday October 19, 2012

So, yesterday my BFF and I stopped for lunch, at Jack Astor’s. I ordered the Jerk Pork and she ordered the Lamb Kafta.

Mine was OK. The pineapple salsa was great, but you can’t go wrong with pineapple in my book!! The jerk marinade on the pork had a bit of kick, not as much as I’m used to, when my hubby makes it at home though. The rice and peas that came with it though was SUPER bland čśŽ Not sure if they did that, to bring out the flavour of the jerk pork more, but it was disappointing.

As for my BFF’s Lamb Kafta…it was a disaster!! It tasted like overly salted sausage,┬áwith confused seasoning.┬áThe spices weren’t Mediterranean, or even┬áMiddle Eastern. The clueless waiter ‘thought’ it may be┬áGreek, but it wasn’t even close. So, I’m guessing it was a badly executed Tandoori seasoning, because of┬áthe red colour. And although I love┬áTandoori chicken, when it came to the ‘Lamb Kafta’ the colour was SO off-putting…at least for me. She was a trooper and ate most of it, to give it a chance, but that’s a dish I’ll NEVER order there.

We’ve been to Jack Astor’s numerous times over the years, and back when they first opened they had some pretty good dishes. Now it seems, ever since they’ve gone the ‘chi-chi’ route, with the ‘upscale’ decor and novel-length menu. They should’ve stuck to the no nonsense menu they had before.┬áUnfortunately Jack Astor’s is really disappointing me, more and more, each time I go čśŽ I do hate writing┬ánegative reviews for places, but sometimes, it’s just plain justified.┬áOf course it’s up to all of you, to decide for yourselves right?! You may enjoy Jack Astor’s, more then I do, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that!!

It was a Salad, for Lunch, Kinda Day

Didn’t feel like a sandwich, so thought of having a salad instead. I started with Mann’s Rainbow Salad, then added grape tomatoes, sliced mushrooms and┬ásome lemon and pepper flaked tuna – finishing it off with citrus dressing…omnomnom!!

The Fork & Plate At Lefroy Harbour

We┬átook a nice drive yesterday, as the weather was just so beautiful. We started getting hungry, and my hubby found this place, for us to stop and have lunch at čÖé

We both ordered the Beef Melt, mine with a side of fries, and my hubby┬áwith a side of kettle chips. It was a huge portion, so we didn’t┬áeat it all.┬áUnfortunately the beef was a bit dry, and the fact that they didn’t have fresh cut fries, was kind of disappointing. BUT!! The atmosphere was nice. We ate on the patio, overlooking the harbour,┬áwith a┬ámuch welcomed breeze. The wait staff, were really nice as well, which was a plus. Would I go back there again? I think so. Would pass on the Beef Melt though, but maybe something else on their menu, would be better. I’m always willing to give a place a second chance, as you never know, you could be pleasantly surprised.
