During the holidays, I love to roast almonds. I usually make a savoury version, but this year I really wanted to try something sweeter. When I came across this recipe I knew I had to try it. I followed the recipe to a ‘T’ up until the spice choice. The recipe calls for Chili Powder, but I decided to use Cayenne Pepper instead. It turned out really good, with a bit of a kick, and was quick to prepare. I stirred it every 20mins for about 40-45mins, because in my oven, they were ready by then. For next time though, I’ll use both Chili powder and Cayenne Pepper, to see if it gives it an extra kick 😀 If you like the combo of sweet and spicy, I’d recommend you give this recipe a try!!

It’s that time of year again!! 🙂 So the hubby and I got our first, tall Peppermint Mocha with light whip, of the season this past Sunday . Oh, how we’ve missed you!! We’ll also be enjoying their Gingerbread, Egg Nog and Caramel Brule lattes too, as the season goes on.

We finally hit a Starbucks that actually had some of these scones. Everywhere we went they’ve been sold out, and it was driving me crazy LOL So YAY!! We got one, and we were so very happy…omnomnom!!

Thanks to a voucher deal, we checked this farm out. There was really not much too it, but then again, it’s tailored to younger kids. But. They did have food!! So, we checked that out 🙂

We saw that they had Spicy Pumpkin Sausage, so my hubby and I got one for each of us. It was tasty and the spicy level was fantastic!! I didn’t really taste the pumpkin, but they may have just used it, to keep the sausage moist 🙂 There was also a mild version, for those of you, with an aversion to spice. We also saw that they had Pumpkin Spice Donuts. Who could pass up the chance to try those right?! They were fresh made, when you ordered them. So, you can only get them in half dozen orders. Which, at first, we thought that was too much. But, after each of us ate one, we were ok to take 4 more home!! They were perfectly spiced and flavoured with pumpkin. And the powdered sugar, was a nice added touch…omnomnom!!

So, this was another tester!! I’ve never made roasted acorn squash before, and I finally decided to try it. I Googled how long to roast it, and came across a basic recipe, from Chow.com. I followed the recipe, but also added cayenne pepper and garlic powder, to kick it up a notch. In my oven, after 45mins or so, it was ready. It turned out pretty good. I’d forgotten how neutral a flavour acorn squash is, as I’ve put it in soup, and never really tasted it once cooked. So, flavouring is key!! Go wild and sprinkle your favourites, to really enhance the squash. We ended up having it with chicken burgers, and it went well together!!

Last weekend we were passing through Barrie, and were looking for some place to stop for lunch, when we came across The Works. We’ve actually seen them at other locations, and always said we should try it out. So, we decided stop in, and give’er a go 🙂

After going through the page long list of burgers…I decided on the Crappy Tire, consisting of a pineapple ring, sweet and spicy sauce and brie cheese. My hubby chose the Jamaican Jerk burger, consisting of jerk spices, sweet green chilies, Monterey Jack cheese and sliced tomato. I liked my burger. I thought the sweetness from the pineapple and sauce went well with the brie cheese. But it could’ve been better. Next time I’ll add hot peppers to it, which should really kick it up a notch!! My hubby’s burger was really good. It was nice and spicy, and I would definitely put that on our try again list, from there for sure!! My absolute favourite part though was, the beverages, were served in measuring cups LOL
If you’re a burger connoisseur, I’d recommend, you check this place out. They have many choices, so there’s something for everyone. Even if you’re REALLY picky, you can just build your own burger, and go from there!!

Good thing hubby and I decided to share this enormous bounty!! It was really good…not too much batter, and you can’t go wrong with fresh cut fries. All made for us at The Fry Box, in Burke’s Falls, Ontario…omnomnom!!

Hubby and I are at a Wendy’s near the car dealership today. Thought, we’d waste our time, sitting here instead. So we decided to get a Frosty. When I saw I could get one in a waffle cone – I was sold LOL A yummy way to pass the time, but at 300 calories a pop, it’s definitely a treat!!
