The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro – Sept 28, 2013

Last weekend we were passing through Barrie, and were looking for some place to stop for lunch, when we came across The Works. We’ve actually seen them at other locations, and always said we should try it out. So, we decided stop in, and give’er a go 🙂

After going through the page long list of burgers…I decided on the Crappy Tire, consisting of a pineapple ring, sweet and spicy sauce and brie cheese. My hubby chose the Jamaican Jerk burger, consisting of jerk spices, sweet green chilies, Monterey Jack cheese and sliced tomato. I liked my burger. I thought the sweetness from the pineapple and sauce went well with the brie cheese. But it could’ve been better. Next time I’ll add hot peppers to it, which should really kick it up a notch!! My hubby’s burger was really good. It was nice and spicy, and I would definitely put that on our try again list, from there for sure!! My absolute favourite part though was, the beverages, were served in measuring cups LOL

If you’re a burger connoisseur, I’d recommend, you check this place out. They have many choices, so there’s something for everyone. Even if you’re REALLY picky, you can just build your own burger, and go from there!!

It’s Pumpkin Ale Time Again!!

Hubby and I saw this bottle at the LCBO (liquor store), and we had to try it!! I liked it more then my Hubby did. It was pumpkin and spicy and just pure nummy 😀 I’d definitely recommend this, to anyone, who’s into pumpkin. Happy fall everyone!!

Wendy’s Frosty in a Waffle Cone

Hubby and I are at a Wendy’s near the car dealership today. Thought, we’d waste our time, sitting here instead. So we decided to get a Frosty. When I saw I could get one in a waffle cone – I was sold LOL A yummy way to pass the time, but at 300 calories a pop, it’s definitely a treat!!

Annual CNE Visit – August 24, 2013

Couple weeks ago, we went to the CNE for our annual visit!! It was a great day filled with lots of walking around and food with my hubby 🙂

We started out with a foot long corn dog each and large fresh squeezed lemonade to share. This is an annual tradition, which we always look forward to!! Ya can’t really screw either up, so it’s always yummy to have for lunch 🙂

Later on, we made our way over to the food trucks, as they were there for the weekend. We first got a Canadian Maple Bacon cupcake, to share, from Sweetness Bakery. We had tried their red velvet, last year, and liked it.  Gotta say…we were disappointed with this one though 😦 The cupcake tasted like pancake batter, with barely there maple infused buttercream icing and a couple of tiny pieces of bacon. Needless to say we won’t get that one again…

We then checked out the Per Se truck. We ordered the shrimp tacos with pico de gallo. It was all right. The shrimp was fresh and grilled nicely, and it went nicely with the greens and pico de gallo. The chips that came with it, looked to be handmade and fried, with a small dollop of garlic aioli for dipping. We didn’t much care for the aioli, but the chips were yummy too 🙂

Last, we checked out the Frankie Fettuccine truck. We ordered Arancini, which was a mozzarella and tomato, stuffed deep fried rice ball. We each had one, and had mixed reviews. I thought it was bland, whereas my hubby thought they were ok. I’ll definitely try it again, somewhere else, in the hopes it’ll taste a lot better!!

For dinner, we went into the Food Building, where we always end up for dinner 🙂 As part of our tradition, we each had $0.99 Primo spaghetti with tomato sauce. It’s nothing special, but it’s good, and that’s all we care about!! We then went our own way, as I just wanted a baked potato with the works, and my hubby wanted bao with a side of sautéed vegetables. My potato was just plain GOOD!! But you can’t really go wrong with a loaded baked potato. My hubby’s bourbon chicken bao, in my opinion, was meh. It just didn’t do it for me, though I thoroughly enjoyed the rice bun, that enveloped the chicken. We ended our evening with our traditional waffle ice cream sandwich…omnomnom!! Unfortunately we devoured them before taking a photo, so the one you see above, is provided by an anonymous person from the web. Thank you, whoever you are!! 🙂

All in all, our CNE experience was yet again, a great experience. There had been some food building issues, but we mostly stuck to what we knew, and didn’t get sick…just happily stuffed!!

Smarties!!

Saw this small ‘grab-and-share’ bag, at our local Dollarama, and I couldn’t resist!! It’s one of my favourite chocolate treats 🙂 It’s similar to M&Ms, but I like them better. We don’t buy it often…usually get them around Halloween, in those boxes of snack size treats. If you haven’t tried them, and get the chance, I have a feeling you’ll like them too!!

Beaver Cheeks At The Port Credit Buskerfest – August 18th, 2013

My hubby and I were taking a walk in Port Credit, this past weekend, and they had their annual Buskerfest. Since we got there at the end of the fest, we decided to check out the food stalls/trucks, that were in Memorial Park. We weren’t that hungry, but when we came across the cute signage for Beaver Cheeks, I was intrigued to say the least. From what I could see of them, on the cooking rack, the lady had them on in the back – they looked like round pillows of lovely dough. The guy manning the till, told us that they were a recipe of her Grandmother’s, that made them light and airy – rather then doughy like most donut holes. At this point I was hooked, and order 5 for $3.50, my hubby and I to share.

After having them warmed up in a small fryer, and rolled in cinnamon sugar, they passed them over to us for our enjoyment!! They didn’t disappoint either. They were nummy, sweet pillows of dough, which are a bad combination – as I could’ve eaten another order…or two LOL I was told that they only do festivals, the Buskerfest being their first, to feel out if people would enjoy their product. So, if you’re ever in Port Credit and there’s a festival going on in Memorial Park, take a detour and see if they’re there. You won’t be disappointed!!
