Jerk Chicken and Doubles for Lunch!!

My hubby and I are at the Downsview Park Merchants Market today. They have a food court, so we decided to have lunch. It’s a smorgasbord of international cuisine, but we finally decided on some jerk chicken at Melo’s Kitchen…omnomnom!!

Unfortunately, it was just OK. Wasn’t as spicy as we like it, which is too bad, but I guess she doesn’t want to lose business over that. The owner is a very friendly lady, and I would come back and try her curried chicken roti, just because I liked her personality!!

Toronto Rotary Ribfest – July 1, 2012

On Canada Day, we met up with friends at the Ribfest, and my GOD was it ever hot!! But, we donned our hats, and took to the lines!! We had gone earlier then usual, so the lines weren’t too bad, though it got crowded pretty quickly.

We started at the Bibb’s BBQ stand first, and to me, it was the best. To me, sauce is important when it comes to ribs, and they had the best sauce. It was the perfect combination of sweet, tang and spice. The ribs themselves had a nice charr on them, yet fell off the bone, and I could’ve eaten WAY more LOL

We also tried ribs from Bad Wolf Kansas City BBQ, and they were pretty good as well. They weren’t as charred, but still fell off the bone…what more can a gal ask for right?! 🙂

We ended with a pulled pork sandwich from Sticky Fingers BBQ & Company, which was really good as well!! The sauce complimented the pulled pork nicely, and it almost melted it my mouth – just how I like it 😀

If you love ribs and being outdoors, even though it was sweltering hot, then you should check out the Ribfest next year. You can check out the Ribfest in Mississauga, as that’s coming up, later in July as well.

The Fork & Plate At Lefroy Harbour

We took a nice drive yesterday, as the weather was just so beautiful. We started getting hungry, and my hubby found this place, for us to stop and have lunch at 🙂

We both ordered the Beef Melt, mine with a side of fries, and my hubby with a side of kettle chips. It was a huge portion, so we didn’t eat it all. Unfortunately the beef was a bit dry, and the fact that they didn’t have fresh cut fries, was kind of disappointing. BUT!! The atmosphere was nice. We ate on the patio, overlooking the harbour, with a much welcomed breeze. The wait staff, were really nice as well, which was a plus. Would I go back there again? I think so. Would pass on the Beef Melt though, but maybe something else on their menu, would be better. I’m always willing to give a place a second chance, as you never know, you could be pleasantly surprised.

Wimpy’s Grilled Chicken Mediterranean Wrap

This wrap, actually comes with breaded chicken, but we opted for grilled – for a few less calories 😉 It’s a HUGE wrap, stuffed with the chicken, feta cheese, lettuce, tomato and their own herb dressing. It’s not bad. The feta is a bit salty for me, but it always is, so no fault of their own. Only ate half, so we got another lunch out of it – YAY!! Would definitely order it again.

Redpath Waterfront Festival – June 23, 2012

So, my hubby and I decided to head down to the festival, for a change of scenery and for some food!! It was a super sunny, gorgeous day out, and we had a great time strolling along the waterfront 🙂

There were beautiful ships out on the lake, which made for some great scenery and photography, while we walked and ate 🙂

We also came down for, the East Coast inspired food, and we weren’t disappointed. We first tried the ‘Fish Tip & Fries’, and the fish was super nummy!! The batter was so thin, and it didn’t overpower the fish at all. We actually just squeezed the lemon over the fish, and ate it like that, since it was so flavourful – it didn’t need the tartar sauce. The fries were the frozen kind, which I forgive, because the fish made up for it in spades 🙂

We then tried out the Lobster Roll, they were offering there too. I hadn’t had one, since I vacationed on the East Coast, in my teen years. It also didn’t disappoint. There was a touch of mayo, but it was ALL lobster, and it was sweet and moist – just like it should be 🙂

A little while later we were surprised by a free sampling of Smoke’s Poutinerie…HELLO!! It was buffet style, so you could make your own poutine concoction. So, I put their famous pulled pork and gravy over their fresh cut fries and cheese curds. Funny thing is, we found out about them a couple weeks ago, on a show called EAT ST. – on The Food Network. We were intrigued by them, and with good reason!! We’re now hooked and will be patroning their store front in the near future. The pulled pork was slightly sweet and perfectly cooked – which was a great compliment to their gravy. If you ever check them out, you won’t be disappointed!! 🙂

All in all, it was a great day and festival. We got to walk off, the scrumptious food we ate, by the waterfront. And enjoyed walking through all the vendors, that were there selling their beautiful wares. If you choose to go to the festival next year, I’m sure you’ll have a great time too!!

Kensington Burger Bar – Sunday June 17th 2012

So, Hubby and I went to the Kensington Burger Bar, this past Saturday. We used a deal voucher I had bought, and it was the last weekend to do so.  I had been there before with my BFF, and we had the Market Burger. Unfortunately, it was a bit too salty for my liking, but I was willing to give them another try anyway.

We decided to have, the Rapini with toasted garlic, lemon and olive oil. It was simple and really good. I’ll definitely be making it at home 🙂

We then decided on sharing the ‘Lyon’ Burger, with goats cheese, arugula and dijon – with a side of sweet potato fries. It was REALLY good. The patty wasn’t salty at all, and it just tasted of pure beef – the way I like it 🙂 The creaminess of the goats cheese, the peppery goodness of the arugala and the spicy tang of the dijon all came together really well. Would definitely have that burger again for sure!!

The sweet potato fries were all right and my GOD you got a lot!! We left half of it, since there was so much LOL Unfortunately, they had salted them too much, for my liking. It seems, it’s hit and miss, when it comes to salt at the Burger Bar. The homemade chipotle ketchup wasn’t bad either. You could tell it was made in house, as it wasn’t super sweet like commercial ketchup, and the chipotle gave a nice little kick to it 🙂

All in all, it was a pretty decent experience. I’d recommend you check them out, the next time you’re in the Kensington area, as you never know – there may be something on their menu you enjoy!!

Bake Sale (Etobicoke Location) – Saturday July 16, 2012

So, I had bought a deal for this bake shope, and I had never heard of it before. Aptly called Bake Shop, my hubby and I went to check them out on Saturday, as well as grab some goodies 🙂

They had everything from brownies, to assorted squares, to assorted cookies and cakes. But, of course, their main attraction are the cupcakes – which they have in both regular and mini sizes. Our deal was for the regular size ones, so we grabbed mint chocolate, peanut butter and strawberry cupcakes. So far we’ve tried the strawberry cupcake and it was pretty good!! It had pieces of real strawberry, wasn’t too sweet, and neither was the strawberry buttercream. The cupcake itself was a tad dry, but we did get it at the end of the day, so that may well have been the reason why. All in all, I would go there again, for a treat and can’t wait to try the mint chocolate and peanut butter cupcakes we have left!!
