So, I bought a couple of coupon vouchers, to try out the food at Rebozos Mexican Restaurant. I wanted to try this place out, as it was touted as a more authentic Mexican restaurant, which we seriously lack here in Toronto. It’s in a converted house, so it was no surprise that we drove past it, at first LOL The interior was cute, cozy, simple and bright – with a Mexican themed décor and telenovelas on the TV in the background.
My hubby and I went first, and since we had never been there before, we decided to try a variety of menu items. Be warned that it’s a very meat-centric menu, so if you’re not into meat, your choices will be very limited. Once we sat down, we were brought 2 small bowls of salsa. One green, and mild (to us), and one red (also mild to us, but we can handle a good amount of spicy). If you’re sensitive to spice, then stick to the green salsa, as it’s more for flavour 🙂 So, we usually wouldn’t pay $8 for Guacamole, but at least it was fresh and very creamy!!
For our main’s we each chose a Pork Tostada, and the trio of Tacos. The Tostada came with a layer of refried beans, which tasted homemade (bonus!), with shredded pork, iceberg lettuce and sour cream to top it off. If you like a crunch, you’ll like the Tostada. For the Taco trio, we both chose Carnitas (slow cooked pork shoulder), Chorizo (Mexican sausage) and Lengua (beef tongue), because we heard it was REALLY good. Unfortunately they didn’t have any Lengua…boo 😦 So the waitress brought us Carne de Res (shredded beef marinated in spices). All three were very tasty, though the pork was my utmost favourite. The little bit of onion and cilantro really enhanced each of the tacos. By the time we were done, we were full!! But, we definitely enjoyed it, and see why they are a popular place to go to for Mexican food. On the day that my BFF went, instead of the Guacamole, we tried the Choriqueso (melted mozzarella cheese with Mexican sausage). It was all right, though the sausage (as in the tacos we had), was a bit dry. Not something I’d have again, but glad I tried it out 🙂
So if you’re ever in Toronto, and want to give them a try, you can check them out at one of their 2 locations on Rogers Road or College Street.
